How to choose a necklace gift for your friend.

Here are some tips to help narrow down your choices when buying a necklace for your friend or loved one.

Birthdays and Christmas’ can be hard to find presents, you have to choose under pressure. Life always seems so busy and full, so having to take the time out to choose a gift can feel stressful at times. It is so much easier if you find something when you are out and about and you come across the perfect piece when you see it. But how do you decide if it is the right necklace for your friend?

Does your friend where large statement jewellery or small delicate pieces?

Think back to when you have been out with your friend. What kind of jewellery do they wear? If you can’t remember try to find photos of them.

Do they wear mainly silver or gold pieces?

Whilst you are checking out photos of your friend you might also notice the colour of jewellery that they normally wear. It might be that they are sensitive to certain metals, so if you notice that they only wear one type, it might be because they are allergic, ask them if you are concerned. It would be sad if they couldn’t wear the jewellery that you have chosen for them. You might find that they only wear a particular colour as it goes well with their skin tones.

When you see them, do they love a necklace to go with their outfits? AND What type of colours do they love wearing?

If you have friends that love to dress up and have a different accessory for every outfit, these are probably the easiest friends to buy for. As they will wear lots of lovely things on rotation. Think about the colours that they wear and if they choose the same colour and match their accessories in tones or whether they go for a co-ordinating colour. This will help pick the main colour of the necklace when it is more than a choice of just silver or gold.

How to choose the right length chain to go with the necklace.

Take a look at your friend. Do they have a small frame? Is their neck dainty? Then an 18” chain might be a good fit for them.
If they are very, very dainty and likes to wear their necklaces high up, then a 16” chain would work. But be careful, buying a 16” chain without checking first, as there is nothing worse than not being able to put on a gorgeous piece of jewellery.
If they have a larger neck or chest, then a 20” chain would fall nicely.
Lastly, if they have a particular attachment to a necklace, that they wear all of the time, you can layer up the necklaces. Have a look at a really long 30” chain. The longer 30” chain is also great if you struggle with or hate undoing catches, as this length of necklace will go straight over your head without even opening the catch.

What if you feel that they won’t like it?

If you have taken all of the time to choose and work out all of the above questions, the key thing is that YOU have chosen it, and because you have chosen, it will make it a very special present. Every time you put on a piece of jewellery that you have been given, you know who bought it for you, perhaps even what occasion it was bought for. Gifts are special and are a symbol of your relationship to each other, so your choice of necklace will be spot on!
