A one-of-a-kind sterling silver ring, inspired by nature and formed using Mitsuro Hikime, an ancient Japanese wax-shaping technique. A tapering band, wide at the front and narrowing to an open back.
No two pieces from this process are ever quite the same, because the texture isn't added afterwards, it's there in the wax from the start. Mitsuro Hikime is an ancient Japanese technique where warm wax is stretched by hand, over and over, until fine lines and ridges begin to form on their own, closer to something grown than something made. Once the wax has found its pattern, there's no going back and no repeating it exactly. This ring carries that same one-off texture, never to be made again.
For the Leaf Open Back Ring, that hand-stretched wax was shaped into a band that's wide and substantial at the front, then tapers gradually down to a slender open back, leaving a gap rather than a closed circle. It's a simple, leaf-like silhouette, inspired by the way a leaf narrows from its broadest point down to a fine tip. Once the wax form was right, it was cast in sterling silver and finished by hand, keeping that natural texture visible all the way round.
